"Gerard Place was [a place] I could lean up against...
to help me get to where I needed to go
instead of pushing me away like everyone else did."
Gerard Place provides support and transitional housing for single-parent families that have experienced the pain of poverty, homelessness, and/or domestic/substance abuse. The agency provides individuals with a number of services designed to empower individuals through education, employment, vocational training, life skill classes and counseling. Residents are not given a "hand out," they are earning a "hand up."
Located in the heart of one of Buffalo's poorest communities -- in which there is a staggering 55% unemployment rate among those aged 19-39 and 40% of children live below the poverty line -- Gerard Place has assisted hundreds of families by giving them the tools they need to help themselves and break the poverty cycle.
