Who We Are

Gerard Place opened its doors in November of 2000. We are a 14 unit transitional shelter for homeless single parent families. Twelve congregations of Women Religious in the Diocese of Buffalo created, sponsor, and serve as the Board of Directors to Gerard Place. We are located in the Bailey-Delavan neighborhood of the City of Buffalo. Our parents are often victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse, or in recovery and all are trying to make better lives for themselves and their children. Gerard Place strives to improve the quality of their lives through a holistic approach by feeding their mind, body and soul. Our parents range in age from 18-45 years old. Our children are aged newborn to 14 years old. Our purpose is to empower our parents through education, employment, vocational training, life skill classes and counseling so that they can live a more self-sufficient life when they leave Gerard Place. The after care case manager works with discharged families for six months in their new apartment so that transitional issues are addressed.
Our Mission & Values
Gerard Place provides transitional housing and supportive services for homeless single parent families. We strengthen families by empowering parents to achieve greater self-sufficiency.
